Ohana is an ancient Hawaiian term which means family. But, we’re not talking just parents and siblings here. Ohana refers to the notion of a family network that’s not automatically connected by blood. Your ohana can include your most genuine friends, colleagues or other special people in your life. Think about those that support you unconditionally, those who you share culture, compassion, love and experiences with – that’s your ohana. Living in Hawaii forever feels like you’re part of one big ohana – a community where you never feel alone.
Situated along Hawaii’s coastline, on the east side of Maui is Hana. 52-miles from Kahalui, the road to Hana is renowned for its wild beauty. The unspoiled landscape, waterfalls and coastal views make this exhilarating drive a sensory phenomenon. Think rainbow eucalyptus trees and rare Hawaiian plants and flowers. Once you arrive in Hana, you’ll find endless beauty – from the Kahuna Garden nature reserve to Hale Piilani – Hawaii’s largest temple.
The concept of Ohana combined with the charming scenery that surrounds the Hawaiian town Hana is where the inspiration and name came from for our new swimwear collection.
The Ohana Hana collection features four different print designs, each hand-drawn with love in Maui. In true Lokahi style, each print is available in different styles, with a fit to suit every body shape:
Leo - Inspired by our love of animal print with a slice of Aloha
Pua - Inspired by our own interpretation of vintage Hawaii
Hana - Inspired by the road to Hana and all of its exotic beauty
Ditsy Floral - Inspired by our love of classic black with a touch of Hawaii
Photoshoots are an essential (and exciting) part of each swimwear collection launch, and this time we had help from our amazing creative ohana in Hawaii. We held three photoshoots for Ohana Hana – two in Oahu and the other in Waikiki.
The Oahu shoot took place in two locations – firstly, over the east side on a secret island at Kaneohe, followed by Tonggs Beach, Honolulu. The talented Amber Mozo worked her magic on this shoot, photographing models Julia Muniz and Hannah Schnittger.
The Waikiki shots were captured at sunset by super cool surf photographer Nick Cribbs. Our surf models were Elizabeth/Curvy Surfer Girl (who we wrote about recently on our journal) and Alicia Kelley, who both rode the waves in style, wearing Lokahi Swimwear’s new designs. Make sure you look out for all these incredible photographs on our Instagram and website.
